Mers el Kebir is a port on the Mediterranean Sea near Oran, northwest Algeria. The name of the city means in Arabic “The Great Harbor” and it is an Algerian military base where there is a high traffic of oil tankers. It is famous for the attack on the French fleet in 1940, in the Second World War.
